Therapeutic Practices I Use

There are many ways in which a
Farrier can help make a horse more comfortable. I may not be
able to completely get a horse out of pain but they will be
better served by using some of the products that were going to
discuss.
Glue On Horseshoes
There are several products that
work really good for gluing on horseshoes Vettec and Equilox.
They normally don't last as long as a nailed shoe but hold on
great in dry climates. Usually when I glue on any type of shoes
(Aluminum or Plastic) its because the horse is to sore to walk
barefoot and the horse just cannot handle the pounding of the
nails being driven in. This is a great alternative to nailing
shoes on but it does cost more.
Happy Hoofwear Horseshoes
What is Happy Hoofwear you say?
Well its a new type of horseshoe that was invented by a lady in
Sarasota, Florida. I was contacted by her and I was set up as 1
of 3 different Farriers used in doing research on this new
flexible horseshoe. I have used these shoes mainly for horses
that need to stimulate new horn growth quickly so as to over
come some hoof injury. Also I have used these for horses that
have been trimmed to short or that have foundered. They work
excellent for taking away concussion when each foot is landing.
Vettec Soul - Guard
Sole-Guard
Sole Protection and Support
Sole-Guard™ is the first product of
its kind to offer fast and effective protection and support for
the unshod foot. Simply fill the bottom of the foot with
Sole-Guard creating a protective coating that bonds to the foot
for three weeks. Sole-Guard sets firm to protect the unshod
foot, but retains flexibility to move naturally with the foot,
providing comfort and support. Sole-Guard provides complete
protection and support in on easy application.
Hoof Casting by Equi-Cast
Another great invention that has
come out in the last several years that is helping horses make a
transition from shoes to barefoot. Their is great success in
this product equi-cast for foundered horses as well. You can use
Equi-Cast for a loose shoe, apply it over the shoe until your
farrier can come out and replace it. Going barefoot let Equi-Cast
help your horse through the transition period. Or have a
foundered horse and dont want to nail on a shoe then apply this
product once again.
