I have spent the last 15 years improving my skills as a Farrier and Horseman. I have continued to educate myself on the latest techniques in Farrier Science. I still am learning new things every year. I do my best to go to trade shows, read the latest Farrier Books, attend clinics, watch video's on the latest Farrier research and listen to well established Master Farriers on how to handle certain hoof care cases.
Natural Barefoot Trim I have worked extra hard in learning how to balance a foot in a more natural way , with out the use of Horse shoes. I have tried to find ways where I can naturally let the horse move more freely without the restriction of Horseshoes. I try to educate every customer I have on how to maintain a healthy hoof with and with out shoes. If I have to shoe, then I will do it in a way that lessens the way it restricts the natural function of the hoof. This has taken me years of learning from trial and error to listening to some of the greatest Farriers all over the world.
Therapeutic Shoeing I also specialize in doing Therapeutic Shoeing especially when I have exhausted on my efforts to help keep a horse comfortable with out shoes. Some of my ways of doing this with horseshoes is to use a soft plastic horseshoe. This special shoe helps reduce the concussion of the hoof and stabilize it. I will also use Glue On Shoes if a horse needs relief and cannot handle the pounding of nails. There are many Therapeutic ways of Shoeing that I have learned that could help a horse be more comfortable. These will be discussed in more detail under Therapeutic Shoeing.
Quarter Crack Repair There are times when balancing the foot is not just enough on some horses with bad Quarter Cracks. More is needed at times. I have the experience in applying the Nolan Hoof Plate (special metal plate that gets screwed onto the outside of the horses hoof, to help stabilize cracks). Also I use other steel plates that are designed to not only help stabilize cracks but also pull the hoof back together. Then there is lacing a Quarter Crack with steel wire and pulling the crack shut and then using a 2 part epoxy to seal up the crack. Which ever option I use the horse will benefit from my years of experience in doing these procedures.
